This was one of the most powerful stories I have ever read。 The protagonist's perspective is so strikingly real and the emotions conveyed in this book, I felt deeply。 I did not know a lot about the history of Afghanistan before reading this novel, but now it's a topic I'm extremely interesting in learning more about。 The characters in Amir's story were more real than those of any other fictional novel I've read。 They weren't just black and white, good guys and bad guys -they were complex and nua This was one of the most powerful stories I have ever read。 The protagonist's perspective is so strikingly real and the emotions conveyed in this book, I felt deeply。 I did not know a lot about the history of Afghanistan before reading this novel, but now it's a topic I'm extremely interesting in learning more about。 The characters in Amir's story were more real than those of any other fictional novel I've read。 They weren't just black and white, good guys and bad guys -they were complex and nuanced and human。 The ending of the story was entirely unexpected。 It was heartbreaking yet hopeful, and I know I will never forget this novel and the way it made me feel。 。。。more

I don’t think I’ve ever read a book like this。 I’ve felt so many emotions, sometimes even sickness, while reading this masterpiece。 First book ever to give 5 stars

Prior to a talk given by Syed Saddiq in a virtual event, I have never heard of this book。 I didn’t even read the synopsis or the genre of this book before jumping straight into it。 He stated that this book, along with A Thousand Splendid Suns, are his favorite fiction。Gosh I was mind-blown from the first chapter of this book。 This author has a way of trapping you in his work with the way he captures the emotion of the character that is narrating the story。 Throughout the book, it felt like you a Prior to a talk given by Syed Saddiq in a virtual event, I have never heard of this book。 I didn’t even read the synopsis or the genre of this book before jumping straight into it。 He stated that this book, along with A Thousand Splendid Suns, are his favorite fiction。Gosh I was mind-blown from the first chapter of this book。 This author has a way of trapping you in his work with the way he captures the emotion of the character that is narrating the story。 Throughout the book, it felt like you are in the story rather than reading a story。 There were so many things in this book that caught my attention and shatter my heart to pieces。 This book perfectly encapsulate how it’s like for the people who lost their home and their pride to war and political conflicts。 Out of many 5 stars I gave to a book, this was the one I was least reluctant to give 5 stars。 A must read for everyone! 。。。more

Given the setting I was unsure I would find this book as appealing as its stellar Goodreads rating。 But it’s a beautiful and moving novel。 A multigenerational story with such themes as loyalty, guilt, secrets, suffering and redemption。 Highly recommended。 Given what’s currently happening in Afghanistan made it particularly poignant。

This is a heart tugging read。 The many personal, emotional and physical turmoil one person can experience from an early age all the way to adulthood leaves a reader in awe of how resiliency plays a huge role in shaping a person as a whole。It offered for me a different view of life from another country and culture, one where family loyalty, friendship bond and human honor is steeped in a person's total being。 This is a heart tugging read。 The many personal, emotional and physical turmoil one person can experience from an early age all the way to adulthood leaves a reader in awe of how resiliency plays a huge role in shaping a person as a whole。It offered for me a different view of life from another country and culture, one where family loyalty, friendship bond and human honor is steeped in a person's total being。 。。。more

this is a really really good book。 i had to read it for school but i’m so glad that i did。 i think it’s important, at least for me to read something thats not such a “happy” book and instead is an eye opener。 which this is。 i cried from like page 200 till the end nonstop。 honestly i didn’t think i would be so attached to this book since it’s so different than my normal reads but it was just so amazing。

"Baba and I lived in the same house, but in different spheres of existence。" Extremely late to the game in reading this, but I'm so glad I did。 People told me this would be dark and I had to be in the right mindset to read it, and they were right。 This was a beautiful and painful story of coming of age, family, love, betrayal, and redemption with themes of race and class。 It was excruciating to go on the journey with all the characters and their pain in all forms was palpable。 From a literary p "Baba and I lived in the same house, but in different spheres of existence。" Extremely late to the game in reading this, but I'm so glad I did。 People told me this would be dark and I had to be in the right mindset to read it, and they were right。 This was a beautiful and painful story of coming of age, family, love, betrayal, and redemption with themes of race and class。 It was excruciating to go on the journey with all the characters and their pain in all forms was palpable。 From a literary perspective, the writing and storytelling were superb, complete with irony, imagery, and symbolism。 I enjoyed learning more about Afghanistan's history and the discrimination against an ethnic minority there。 It's not something I knew much about prior to reading the book。 Would absolutely recommend the book, but like others have told me, be warned that it is quite a grim tale。 。。。more

The Kite Runner was a painful and beautiful read。 Painful because of the sadness and the fact that these occurrences are real and happen to plenty of Afghanis everyday; beautiful because there's hope。This book was not something I'd usually read, so I wasn't looking forward to reading it for school。 I didn't expect to be so hooked; The Kite Runner was a page-turner。 I would set reading goals for each morning and by the end of the day I had passed my page goal。 It was so easy to get hooked, an The Kite Runner was a painful and beautiful read。 Painful because of the sadness and the fact that these occurrences are real and happen to plenty of Afghanis everyday; beautiful because there's hope。This book was not something I'd usually read, so I wasn't looking forward to reading it for school。 I didn't expect to be so hooked; The Kite Runner was a page-turner。 I would set reading goals for each morning and by the end of the day I had passed my page goal。 It was so easy to get hooked, and so hard to get myself to put the book down。I think the saddest part, in my opinion, was Amir's return to Afghanistan。 My whole life, the country has been in shreds; I never once thought about what it might have been before war and conflict riddled the land。 To see this other, culture-rich version at the beginning of The Kite Runner was shocking。 I liked learning about their culture, and hated seeing the contrast between what once was and what currently is。 Amir's return to his birthplace crushed me because it was less than a skeleton of the beautiful place it once was to him。Back to Hosseini's style, The Kite Runner wasn't just a page turner; this book felt real 。 The style used made this book feel like an autobiography, not a work of fiction。 I frequently found myself forgetting that Amir was fictional and not the author of this book; he and all the other characters felt so real to me。 I don't usually enjoy autobiographies, but if this had been one, I would have enjoyed it。Although not something I would have chosen for myself, I loved The Kite Runner and would be willing to check out similar books。 。。。more
